Kenya's hopes of lifting the football titles at the 23rd Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games have suffered a major setback after all four Kenyan representatives were eliminated from the competition in Morogoro, Tanzania.
In the boys' competition, Kakamega School suffered a 2-1 defeat to Uganda's Kyadondo Secondary School in their opening match, while St Mary's Yala lost 1-0 to Uganda's St Mary's Kitende.
Both Kenyan sides had arrived in Morogoro with high expectations, particularly Kakamega School, which was returning to the East African stage after a five-year absence, while St Mary's Yala were making their debut at the regional competition after winning the Nyanza Region title.
In the girls' competition, St Joseph's Girls Kitale opened their campaign with a goalless draw against Tanzania's Alliance, while Nyakach Girls shared the spoils 1-1 with Uganda's Jinja Progressive Academy.
The exit of all four Kenyan teams leaves Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda to battle for the two football titles as the Games enter the business end, with the semi-finals now dominated by sides from the three countries.
All four semi-final matches are scheduled for Jamhuri Stadium on Friday, August 21. In the girls' semi-finals, Uganda's Rines Secondary School will face compatriots Boni Consili at 9am, before Amus College of Uganda takes on Rwanda's PSB Huye at 2pm. In the boys' semi-finals, hosts Morogoro Secondary School of Tanzania will face Rwanda's CGF Kigali at 11am, while Tanzania's Mbeya Secondary School will take on Uganda's St Mary's Kitende at 4pm.
Kenya will now turn its attention to other disciplines at the 23rd edition of the East Africa Schools Games, being held in Morogoro from August 14 to 22, 2026. The country came into the championships targeting success across several sporting disciplines, with football among the key events where Kenyan schools had hoped to challenge regional giants Uganda.
