Vihiga County's Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners have posted an impressive performance at the ongoing 98th Kenya National Music Festival, with one team emerging national champions and two others securing top-five finishes.
The county's three ECDE teams, representing Vihiga at the national festival being held at Kibabii University in Bungoma County, excelled in various categories, underscoring the county's growing investment in nurturing talent at the foundational level of education.
Emutsuru ECDE emerged first in the Solo Verse category with its presentation titled Sitaficha Sawa. The team also impressed adjudicators with a well-executed performance of the choral verse Penseli.
Ebukuya School for the Hearing Impaired finished second in the English Verse category for learners with hearing impairment after delivering an outstanding performance in Kenyan Sign Language, earning praise for its creativity, coordination and artistic expression.
Holy ECDE also registered a strong showing, placing fifth in the Choral Verse category with its presentation Motomoto.

The achievements were hailed as a reflection of Vihiga County's continued commitment to strengthening Early Childhood Development Education through investment in co-curricular activities that nurture creativity, confidence and communication skills among young learners.
County education officials congratulated the learners, teachers and coaches for their dedication and discipline, noting that the outstanding results had placed Vihiga among the top-performing counties in the ECDE categories at this year's festival.
They also expressed confidence that the county's remaining representatives would continue posting strong performances as the national competition progresses.
The 98th Kenya National Music Festival is taking place at Kibabii University from August 1 to 14 under the theme, "Enhancing the Creative Economy Through Knowledge, Skills and Artistic Production for Sustainable Development." The annual event has brought together learners from across the country to showcase their talents in music, dance, verse and other performing arts.
