The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) is ramping up regulatory checks across the Coast Region, inspecting institutions for registration and new programme licensing.
Inspectors recently visited the newly built Kenya Coast National Polytechnic (KCNP) Kwale Campus in Kompani, near Ukunda, flagging it as a standout example of the drive. The campus houses a state-of-the-art Hospitality, Tourism and Maritime Studies Centre of Excellence, which opened its doors to students last month ahead of an official launch later this year.
At KCNP Kwale, the TVETA team examined facilities, infrastructure and institutional documentation against regulatory and quality benchmarks, preparing the ground for the proposed programmes. Given its focus on hospitality, tourism and maritime studies, the campus represents a major investment in skills that could drive jobs, entrepreneurship and economic growth along the Coast.
Beyond Kwale, the authority has also visited Ahmed Shahame Mwidani Technical Training Institute, Mvita Technical and Vocational College (TVC), the College of Human Resource Management's Mombasa Campus, and Likoni TVC. At each stop, inspectors reviewed documentation, assessed training facilities and engaged managers and trainers on compliance and quality standards.
TVETA plans to continue the exercise with visits to additional institutions across the Coast Region, further tightening oversight while helping institutions meet the required benchmarks.
